2018 South Dakota State Fair Open and Junior Holstein Show Highlights

The 2018 South Dakota State Fair Junior and Open Holstein at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron, S.D., was held on Friday, August 31, 2018. The official judge for the show was Julie Hemp of Beaverville, Ill. She placed 71 heifers and 32 cows for a total of 103 head.

Of the 71 heifers that were shown in the morning Judge Hemp selected the first place Winter Yearling, Al-Shar Sids Ginger Ale-ET (Solomon), exhibited by Al-Shar Holsteins as the Junior Champion of the show. Reserve Junior Champion honors were given to the first place Summer Yearling, Darise Doorman Goldrush (Doorman) exhibited by Bethany Rennich.

The Intermediate Champion of the show was Vanderham WB Dylynnzee-2-ET (Windbrook), the first place Junior Three-Year-Old Cow, exhibited by Vanderham Dairy. Reserve Intermediate Champion was the first place Junior Two-Year-Old Cow, Vanderham Def Sonata-Red, exhibited by Vanderham Dairy.

Senior Champion was presented to Al-Shar SDG Ms Erin-ET (Hero), first place Five-Year-Old, exhibited by Al-Shar Holsteins. Reserve Senior Champion went to the first place Four-Year-Old Cow Wils-Gold Ready 2 Roll-Red (Ladd-P-Red) exhibited by Bethany Rennich.

Al-Shar SDG Ms Erin was named the Grand Champion and Best Udder of the open show. Reserve Grand Champion of the open show was presented to Wls-Gold Ready 2 Roll-Red.

Judge Hemp selected the first place Winter Yearling, Al-Shar Sids Ginger Ale-ET (Solomon), exhibited by Al-Shar Holsteins as the Junior Champion of the junior show. Reserve Junior Champion honors were given to the first place Spring Yearling, Royaldale Lucky Lily (Sender) exhibited by Royaldale Farm.

The Intermediate Champion of the junior show was Ms Al-Shar OK Alley Cat (Kaliber), the first place Senior Two-Year-Old Cow, exhibited by Al-Shar Holsteins. Reserve Intermediate Champion was the first place Junior Two-Year-Old Cow of the junior show (3rd place in open show), Bonnie Elms FS Airlift Fran (Airlift), exhibited by Bonnie Elm Farm.
